Open Source Software

The benefit of OSS is that it lets you personally review the code of every app or service you trust your precious data with, and that scales to the thousands or millions of other users that utilize such software.

OSS alternatives exist for everything, from entire operating systems to something as mundane as your to-do list app.

Examples include: Linux Immich, Bitwarden, Local Send, Signal, Telegram and many more.

Common Sense

No app or service can save you if you can't recognize an obvious phishing link or malware site. So check if that URL is written correctly before you click on it, and verify the site's authenticity before downloading a file from it.

Generate strong passwords, don't reuse them and definitely don't store them unencryped!
